Pharmaceutical Packaging

Custom poly bags and liners manufactured to customer-controlled specifications, with available material and production documentation reviewed for the intended pharmaceutical or medical-related use.

Understanding Pharmaceutical Packaging

Pharmaceutical suitability cannot be established by calling a generic LDPE bag “medical grade” or “clean-room compatible.” The customer must define cleanliness, contact, traceability, testing, change control, and validation requirements. M Plastics then determines whether its materials and manufacturing capabilities fit that specification.

From Our Factory Floor

How M Plastics Approaches Pharmaceutical Packaging

Pharmaceutical and medical-related packaging begins with specification discipline. M Plastics’ role is to manufacture the agreed poly bag or liner consistently and provide the production documentation requested for that material. We work directly with each customer’s quality team because suitability, validation, cleanliness, and regulatory requirements belong to the specific product and process—not to a generic “medical-grade” label.

Common Pharmaceutical Applications

  • Component and device protection
  • Raw-material and ingredient liners
  • Clean inner bags and overbags
  • Shipping and storage liners

What We Need to Build the Right Package

Provide the intended use, material and food-contact requirements, cleanliness level, dimensions, mil thickness, closure, static-control needs, traceability, certificates, change-control expectations, and customer validation protocol.

Packaging Challenges to Resolve

  • Cleanliness and particulate limits must be measurable and agreed.
  • Material identity, additives, lot records, and certificates may be controlled.
  • Drug, device, component, and shipping uses have different risk profiles.
  • Double bagging, closures, static control, and transfer procedures may be process-specific.

Construction and Feature Guidance

  • Lay-flat bags, gusseted bags, overbags, tubing, and box liners can be reviewed.
  • Closure may be heat seal, tie, tape, or another customer-approved method.
  • Anti-static film is available for appropriate uses but is not static shielding.
  • Print and labels must follow the customer’s approved artwork and traceability system.

From Film Specification to the Packing Line

Material and mil thickness

Available virgin LDPE and food-contact material options may support some applications, subject to review. Food-contact material status is not approval for a drug, device, sterile barrier, cleanroom, or biocompatibility use.

Manual and Automated Packing

Define where the bag enters the process, how it is opened, filled, sealed, transferred, and inspected. Equipment compatibility and operator handling should be included in qualification.

Testing and Limitations

Customer quality and regulatory teams own suitability and validation. M Plastics should confirm only the documentation, tolerances, and controls it can actually provide for the approved specification.

A material declaration or FDA-grade resin does not approve a finished package for every product or process. The customer remains responsible for application-specific regulatory review and validation.

Pharmaceutical Packaging FAQ

Practical answers from a manufacturer. Final specifications are confirmed for your product, equipment, and use conditions.

Do you determine whether a bag is suitable for a drug or device?

The customer is responsible for regulatory suitability and validation. We manufacture to the approved specification and can provide available material and production documentation.

Can you support controlled specifications and traceability?

Yes. Requirements should be defined before quoting so our quality team can confirm the appropriate records, tolerances, and documentation.

Are anti-static options available for devices?

Yes. Anti-static film is available for appropriate applications, subject to the customer’s performance and validation requirements.

How should we approve the final pharmaceutical bag?

Review a production-representative sample with the actual product, packing method, closure, storage, and distribution conditions. Approval criteria should be documented before the full run.

What should we send with a quote request?

Provide the intended use, material and food-contact requirements, cleanliness level, dimensions, mil thickness, closure, static-control needs, traceability, certificates, change-control expectations, and customer validation protocol.
