Poultry Packaging

Wicketed, gusseted, and lay-flat poultry bags developed around loading equipment, bird or part geometry, moisture, temperature, sealing, and approved food-contact requirements.

Understanding Poultry Packaging

Poultry bags must open and present consistently while accommodating variable shapes, exposed bone, moisture, and production-floor handling. M Plastics can control film, dimensions, wicket configuration, perforation, and print, but equipment compatibility and finished-package suitability are confirmed through customer trials.

From Our Factory Floor

How M Plastics Approaches Poultry Packaging

Poultry lines do not have time for bags that cling, tear, or feed inconsistently. Our team has handled that challenge by controlling the film extrusion, bag dimensions, wicket configuration, and converting tolerances in-house. We work from the actual packing motion and equipment requirements, then build a bag that supports the line rather than slowing it down.

Common Poultry Applications

  • Whole-bird packaging
  • Fresh or frozen poultry parts
  • Marinated and value-added products
  • Automated and semi-automated packing lines

What We Need to Build the Right Package

Share the product size range, line speed, loading method, wicket or dispenser details, temperature, bone exposure, seal method, and printing requirements. Consistent opening and bag-to-bag dimensions matter as much as nominal size on a fast line.

Packaging Challenges to Resolve

  • Whole birds and parts create changing profiles and localized film stress.
  • Wet product and cold surfaces can complicate loading and sealing.
  • Fast lines are sensitive to bag curl, blocking, hole placement, and dimensional variation.
  • Marinades or added liquid require application-specific containment testing.

Construction and Feature Guidance

  • Wicket bags support repeatable presentation on compatible manual or automated stations.
  • Side gussets provide volume without making the entire bag unnecessarily wide.
  • Seal location, lip, opening direction, and wicket-hole pattern must match the process.
  • Approved print can identify SKUs, brands, handling directions, and traceability information.

From Film Specification to the Packing Line

Material and mil thickness

Film and mil thickness should be selected for flexibility, bone exposure, seal method, clarity, and temperature. FDA-grade material can be specified for food contact; that status concerns the material and does not validate the complete poultry package.

Manual and Automated Packing

For equipment-fed bags, provide machine make and model, wicket spacing, lip, pitch, opening method, loading motion, and target speed. Manual operations should also trial ergonomics, opening, and closure.

Testing and Limitations

Run filled bags through sealing, chilling or freezing, casing, stacking, and transport. Do not assume a standard LDPE bag is suitable for shrink, vacuum, cook-in, retort, or a specified freezer condition.

A material declaration or FDA-grade resin does not approve a finished package for every product or process. The customer remains responsible for application-specific regulatory review and validation.

Poultry Packaging FAQ

Practical answers from a manufacturer. Final specifications are confirmed for your product, equipment, and use conditions.

Can you manufacture wicketed poultry bags?

Yes. We manufacture wicket bags for faster loading and can match size, mil thickness, lip, hole pattern, and wicket configuration to the packing setup.

How do you reduce tearing around bones?

We evaluate mil thickness, resin blend, bag fit, and handling points. The final specification should be tested with the actual product and line conditions.

Can you support printed poultry packaging?

Yes. Up to six-color in-house flexographic printing is available for branding, instructions, and customer-approved information.

How should we approve the final poultry bag?

Review a production-representative sample with the actual product, packing method, closure, storage, and distribution conditions. Approval criteria should be documented before the full run.

What should we send with a quote request?

Share the product size range, line speed, loading method, wicket or dispenser details, temperature, bone exposure, seal method, and printing requirements. Consistent opening and bag-to-bag dimensions matter as much as nominal size on a fast line.
